The Celebration of Mass
Participation at Sunday Mass must be seen by a Catholic not as an imposition or a weight, but as a need and joy. To meet with brothers, to listen to the Word of God and to be nourished of Christ, immolated for us, is an experience that gives meaning to life, which infuses peace in the heart. Without Sunday, we Catholics cannot live. - Benedict XVI |
HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION
On Ash Wednesday and Holy Days of Obligation we have Mass at 12:05 and 5:05 pm. The United States lists the following days as Holy Days of Obligation. Days listed in bold typically occur on a day other than Sunday.
- Mary, Mother of God (always celebrated January 1, but if this occurs on a Saturday or a Monday there is no obligation to go to Mass)
- Epiphany (this has been permanently translated to the first Sunday after January 1)
- Ascension (Traditionally celebrated on the 40th day of Easter, but in this diocese transferred to the seventh Sunday of Easter.)
- The Body and Blood of Christ (this has been permanently translated to the second Sunday after Pentecost)
- Assumption of Mary (always celebrated August 15, but if this occurs on a Saturday or a Monday there is no obligation to go to Mass)
- All Saints (always celebrated November 1, but if this occurs on a Saturday or a Monday there is no obligation to go to Mass)
- Immaculate Conception of Mary (always celebrated December 8)
- Christmas (always celebrated December 25)

Adoration of the Blessed Eucharist

Adoration is a form of worship and devotion to Jesus Christ, present in the consecrated host. Anytime we enter a Chapel where the Eucharist is present (whether reposed in the tabernacle or exposed on the Altar) we can adore our Lord. Christians around the world have worshiped and prayed in this way for at least 750 years.
The Eucharist is exposed on Monday 8:30pm-9:30pm, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 4:30pm-5:30pm and on Wednesdays 9:00am-5:30pm.
Whenever the Eucharist is exposed, it is necessary to have at least one person present (though two is preferable). If you would like to commit to a weekly hour of Adoration on Wednesdays, please sign up using the form below! Knowing that schedules change every semester, you will be able to sign up for a new time in the Spring.
If you are scheduled, be sure to be faithful to your times or let someone know in the front office in Frassati Hall so that we can fill in.

Liturgical Ministries
Volunteers for Liturgical Ministries are the many students who work with our priests and each other to support the worship & prayer life of the students of Stephen F. Austin State University. These volunteers meet a huge opportunity to inspire faith, deepen prayer, elevate spirits, plant seeds, welcome strangers, and help everyone discover the compassion and beauty of life with Christ and his Church:
- Readers proclaim the Word of God at Mass
- Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion distribute Holy Communion
- Altar Servers assist the Priest during Mass and make sure everything runs smoothly
